With COVID-related travel restrictions in varying effect for the better part of two years, surf nomads have been forced to get creative. That means, constant monitoring which countries are open, and/or spending more time exploring their own backyards. For Nate Zoller, a Laguna Beach-based surfer who spends much of his year on the road, he decided to deepen his relationship with Mexico – from Baja to Mainland to the southern points.

And the result was a cinematic love letter to the country, Dear Mexico, which was shot during multiple strike missions throughout the course of 2021.

“Every session in this edit is memorable,” said Nate. “Most of the days we shot for Dear Mexico were on solid swells, so I think the film carries a kind of ode to what Mexico can offer. No matter where you go in Mex it always turns into an adventure. The proximity to California, the different waves it has on offer, the local people, the food…it’s the best.”
